"United Together" adalah studi anatomi harapan manusia; menangkap momen ketika "selamanya" ternyata memiliki tanggal kedaluwarsa, kehilangan, penyangkalan (denial), dan kesetiaan yang Tragis.

"Thunder and the rain" menggambarkan hubungan yang seharusnya menyatu secara natural dan tak terpisahkan. Namun, realitanya adalah "the storm" (badai) yang mereka kira akan berlalu justru menghancurkan segalanya.

Memori fisik yang konkret, ukiran nama di pohon cottonwood, cincin murah, dan bekas lipstik di cangkir kopi, dengan kekosongan saat ini. Benda-benda ini menjadi "hantu" yang menolak pergi. "Did I talk too loud, did I hold too tight?" mencari kesalahan pada diri sendiri untuk menjelaskan mengapa hubungan bisa berakhir. "Tether" (Tali Pengikat), namun  "goodbye cut clean through the tether," betapa mendadak dan tajamnya perpisahan itu terjadi.

Itulah keterjebakan dalam jebakan janji masa lalu. Meskipun hubungan telah mati secara fisik, tapi tetap menjaga "lampu teras tetap menyala," menunjukkan harapan sia-sia namun tulus. Awalnya, penuh kebanggaan, dan optimisme masa muda. Ada keyakinan naif bahwa cinta cukup kuat untuk menahan badai apa pun. Namun, esai hidup dan kehidupan menuliskan narasi yang berbeda.

Bekas lipstik di cangkir kopi tidak bisa dihapus bukan hanya noda fisik, melainkan memori yang menolak memudar. "Membunuh suara" di speaker, namun suara sang kekasih tetap bergema di dalam kepalanya. Ini adalah post-traumatic loss, karena keheningan justru menjadi tempat paling berisik.

"Apakah aku terlalu keras bicara? Apakah aku mendekap terlalu erat?" Pertanyaan ini mencerminkan kerapuhan jiwa yang mencoba menyatukan kembali pecahan kaca.

"United Not Together" adalah ironi pahit tentang kesendirian. Karena sebagai "si bodoh yang sama" (same old fool), hati yang masih terikat pada hantu kehidupan masa lalu. Akhirnya menyadari bahwa bagian tersulit mengasihi bukan saat menjalaninya, melainkan harus melepaskan tali yang sudah lama putus.
